Most jobs require some form of writing. The more professional the job, the more writing skills that are required. Think about the kind of career you want to have after you graduate. Do you feel that the education you are receiving in high school is preparing you to be competitive in the hunt for this job? If you plan to go to college, do you feel you have the necessary writing skills to succeed? Include specific examples.
I think the high school is doing an O.K. job at preparing me for the writing I will have to do in my job, but I feel it could be greatly improved. For one, I feel that since I want to be an English teacher, we should certainly focus more on grammar topics and how to apply those in writing. It's one thing to know the rule; it's completely different when a person tries to show someone else how to use it.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm doing okay at high school. I'm not really sure what I want to do when I graduate. I want to go to college eventually, but I might take a year off and travel the world with nothing but a backpack. I think that'd be a good experience and would give me more things to write about. I think High School should provide us with more real-life experience and not as much reading from books.
ReplyDeleteI think the high school is doing okay, but it could be doing better also. Right now, I do not think I have the necessary writing skills to compete with college writing. I am an okay writer but it is not college level. I think high school should require more writing help.
ReplyDeleteI believe high school is a good time for students to learn the basic writing skills, but most teachers do not push us enough to practice our craft. I do plan to go to college, but I might be like Elizabeth and take a year off to either work or travel. I think I have enough writing skills to make it into the work force if I did not go to college, but I think if I did go to college, I would definitely become a better writer!
ReplyDeleteWell, I want to be a rap artist (clearly), and let's be honest... high school is not preparing me for that at all. Rappers do a lot of writing - they have to be GREAT writers, but all the writing we do in school is about boring research and dumb books that have nothing to do with my life. When do we actually get to write something real and meaningful?
ReplyDeleteI want to be an English teacher. I want to inspires students to love what they do in the classroom. I just feel that teachers are trying to shove too much in my head. How can I focus on any one aspect of grammar/writing to master it enough to teach it? Everyone thinks we just know what every definition there is, is. We DON'T! HELLOOOO I don't want to know HOW many papers I can write in a certain time period! I want to know how well I'm doing and what I need to do better on. I'm not getting that from my teachers. I'm pretty sure they weren't expected to know all that we are expected to know.... GAH!
ReplyDeleteI think high school is doing a well enough job in teaching me the elements of writing. I love to write so I am always willing to boost my writing skills. I want to be a writer when I go to college so I will find myself learning even more about grammar and structure. I do feel I have the skills needed to succeed in the real-world. My writing skills will only improve more as I practice and practice.
ReplyDeleteI believe that teachers should incorporate writing in every aspect of their instruction. I love writing because I value the relationship the writer and the reader; and the relationship between intelligent and paper. But an individual will only improve their writing skill by continuously engaging in writing.
